Sometimes patients whose thyroid is beginning to fail, experience really severe menstrual discomfort. You might try asking your GP for a T3 T4 and TSH testing. There is also something called PMDD, premenstrual dysphoric disorder which can do something like you are describing but I would imagine that this has been considered.
